Connect SERPtag to your favourite AI assistant in just a few minutes. SERPtag supports both Remote HTTP MCP and the npm bridge, depending on which AI assistant you’re using. Before you begin, make sure you’ve already created your API key.

Required You’ll need a valid SERPtag API key before continuing. If you haven’t created one yet, follow the Create an API Key guide first.

Choose Your AI Assistant

SERPtag supports multiple AI assistants. Select the one you want to connect.

Cursor

Cursor supports direct HTTP connections, making it the quickest way to connect SERPtag.

Step 1

Open: Settings → MCP → Edit Config Or edit:

~/.cursor/mcp.json

Step 2

Replace the contents with:

Save the file. Restart Cursor.

Step 4

Open a new chat and ask:

Show me all my SERPtag projects

If everything is configured correctly, Cursor will return your live SERPtag projects.

VS Code

VS Code also supports direct HTTP connections.

Reload VS Code. Open a new AI chat and verify SERPtag appears as an available MCP server.

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop currently requires a small local bridge. This requires Node.js 18 or later.

Step 3

Save the file. Completely quit Claude Desktop. Open it again.

Step 4

Start a new conversation and ask:

Show me all my SERPtag projects

Claude should now retrieve live ranking data from your SERPtag account.

Claude Code

Claude Code supports the hosted SERPtag MCP server directly. Run:

claude mcp add --transport http serptag https://mcp.serptag.com/mcp

When prompted, provide your SERPtag API key.

Windsurf

Most recent versions of Windsurf support Remote HTTP MCP. Use the same configuration shown for Cursor. If your version only supports local MCP servers, use the Claude Desktop configuration instead.

Verify Your Installation

Once your AI assistant has restarted, confirm everything is working. You should see SERPtag listed as an available MCP server. Try asking one of the following:

Show me all my SERPtag projects

What are my top 10 keywords?

Show my account usage.

If live data is returned, your installation is complete.

Troubleshooting

Problem	Solution
No SERPtag tools appear	Restart your AI assistant and verify your configuration file.
Invalid API key	Generate a new API key from Settings → API Keys.
Claude Desktop won’t connect	Ensure Node.js 18 or later is installed by running `node -v`.
MCP access unavailable	Verify your account is on an Agency or Enterprise plan.
