# Introduction

The **SERPtag MCP Server** connects AI assistants like **Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, and Windsurf** directly to your live SERPtag SEO data.

Instead of switching between your AI assistant and the SERPtag dashboard, you can ask questions in plain English and receive answers powered by your own projects, keyword rankings, ranking history, and account information.

Whether you're reviewing keyword performance, investigating ranking changes, or checking account usage, SERPtag MCP gives your AI assistant secure, real-time access to your SEO data.

## What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

The **Model Context Protocol (MCP)** is an open standard that allows AI assistants to securely connect to external tools and live data sources.

With SERPtag MCP, your AI assistant can communicate directly with your SERPtag account. Instead of uploading spreadsheets or copying reports, the assistant retrieves live information whenever you ask a question.

SERPtag hosts and manages the MCP server for you, so there is nothing to install or maintain on your own server.

## What can SERPtag MCP do?

Once connected, your AI assistant can:

• List all of your rank tracking projects

• Search projects by name or domain

• View current keyword rankings

• Display keyword ranking history

• Compare rankings over different time periods

• Show keywords ranking in the Top 10

• Display project performance graphs

• View project alerts

• Group keywords by landing page

• Display account usage, subscription details and limits

## Requirements

Before connecting SERPtag MCP, you'll need:

1. A SERPtag **Agency** or **Enterprise** subscription.
2. A valid SERPtag API Key.
3. A supported AI assistant.
4. Node.js 18 or later if you're using the npm installation method.

## How SERPtag MCP Works

Every time you ask your AI assistant an SEO question, the following happens:

1. Your AI assistant sends a request to the SERPtag MCP Server.
2. The server validates your API key.
3. SERPtag securely retrieves your live SEO data.
4. The information is returned to your AI assistant.
5. Your AI assistant explains the results in natural language.
